The mother-of-two may have a relaxed approach to parenting, but she always does what's right for her kids, even when it's not convenient.

A mom who doesn’t overplan is our kind of friend, which is why it’s so delightful to talk with Chrissy Teigen. This is the mom who shows fun bugs to her daughter, Luna, (even ones that turn out to be legit terrifying). The mom who admits to vomiting at school orientation thanks to a bad combo of jet lag, wine, and Korean barbecue the night before. The mom who lets you know in her Insta caption just how hard it is to get a good picture with both your baby and your toddler.

Parents spoke to Teigen this week, and while she admits to winging parenting, she also explains that she puts a lot of thought into decisions as they come up. “I kind of go into things with no plan,” Teigen said. Discovering she was pregnant with Luna was no exception, "I didn’t read a single book. I didn’t do any birthing classes. I say, ‘The less you plan, the less disappointed you’ll be.’ I just want to have a surprise every day, apparently. And I do!”

It’s not as contradictory as it may sound. For instance, Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, have a home a few minutes away from a preschool. But, when it came time to enroll Luna, they chose a school that better fit their daughter even though it’s a 40-minute drive away. “I’m like, 'Okay, breakfast is going to be in the car, it’s going to be one of those crustless sandwiches, and that’s my life—deal with it!' It’s worth it," Teigen explained.

That kind of mom-thought is why she’s teaming with Pampers to get parents talking about their #PureGoals, the universal drive that all parents feel to give their kiddos the best. Teigen told us, “That school is the best thing for her, and that’s kind of actually what inspired the hashtag in the first place. There are things we don’t compromise on. It’s a universal truth within parenting and we all get it.”

With Teigen letting us in on her instinctive parenting style, we couldn’t help but get to the bottom of how much of an un-planner she is. While pregnant, all women at least plan their baby’s nursery, right? As it turns out, Teigen likes to keep things very loose!

Parents: Did you have any vision for Luna’s nursery? Did you set up some things beforehand?

Teigen: “Yeah, but the whole nursery was revamped a week into it. John and I thought when we had Luna that we’d put her in a cove of our bedroom. We were like, ‘Oh my gosh, how cool would it be to have Luna, our newborn daughter, in our room? That would be so gorgeous!’ So we made this nursery in the side area. And of course a week into it we were like, ‘Are you kidding me? What were we thinking? This is the worst idea on the planet! She needs to be down the hall.’ It was ridiculous. We had a plan, maybe, but it changed!”

Did you then use a baby monitor?

“You use one monitor and you’re like, ‘This monitor is crap!’ And then you get another and go online and read the reviews of monitors and are like, ‘Does this person work for the monitor company?’ Just don’t trust anything until you do it yourself. That’s how you gain all your smarts as a parent, you just do it yourself. You figure out what works. Then you try to share that knowledge with other parents.”

So are you like the expert mom now in your group of friends?

“No! Oh my gosh, not at all. If anything, I really love when I can watch other parents. I kind of love seeing other kids melt down. And I like seeing other parents grab their kids’ little clothes pits and say to them, ‘No hitting!’ And I’m like, ‘I’m not alone!’ We’re in this together. We’re all dealing with the same issues.”
