13 Celebs Who Battled Morning Sickness

It's not the prettiest part of pregnancy, but morning sickness (which, P.S., can strike at any time of day) is very common. Even the rich and famous aren't immune from those gotta-run-to-the-bathroom-now blues. See what these celeb moms said about their bouts of the queasies.

If you bump into Molly Sims at the supermarket, you may want to turn your cart around and head the other way. Because the pregnant supermodel admits she’s been crazy sick this time around while carrying her third baby—and not always at the most convenient times. “I wake up in the morning, I feel like I wanna vomit,” Sims explains in a video posted on her website. “I have lunch and wanna vomit, and I wanna vomit at dinner. And then when I go to bed, I still want to vomit.” Yikes! “I have vomited at grocery stores,” she continues, “I have vomited in my house, I have gagged on my toothpaste. I don’t know why I’ve been so green.” Now that she’s past the first trimester, though, Sims says she’s finally starting to feel better.

Bachelorette alum and TV personality Ali Fedotowsky opened up about her tough first trimester morning sickness in a post on her personal blog. "It was rough because I was sick all the time!" she wrote. "I lost about 7lbs. in my first trimester because I couldn't really eat anything. I only ate clementines and dry toast for about a month between weeks 7-12." She tried to explain it to her concerned fiancé, Kevin Manno, and the best way she could describe it was as "one long hangover."

One of the latest celebs to reveal her trouble with morning sickness is new mom-of-two Kim Kardashian West. "To be honest, I've had really bad morning sickness, day sickness, night sickness. I can barely get out of bed," she told US Weekly. "It's a very different type of pregnancy from my first one, but I'm so grateful to be pregnant when we didn't even think it was going to happen for us, [so] I don't care how sick I am."

Perhaps one ofthe most famous—and closely watched—case of morning sickness belongs to the Duchess of Cambridge. During both of her pregnancies—with Prince George and Princess Charlotte—she suffered from a rare but debilitating form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum. Both times, Kate was put on bed rest and even had a stay in a hospital. Though she's never publicly spoke about her experience, we're thankful she had the support she needed to make it through and bring a new generation of British royalty into the world.

During an interview with E! News, Khloé Kardashian revealed that her sister Kourtney was having issues with morning sickness during her second pregnancy with daughter Penelope. "But it's not even in the morning. It happens any time, apparently." Khloé wasn't exaggerating: In an interview with Parents.com, Kourtney said, "The beginning was different because I had a lot more morning sickness than last time. I was also more tired, but that's probably because I'm chasing after a toddler most of the time."

Though Beyoncé has stayed mum about her pregnancy with daughter Blue Ivy, her friend and fellow celeb mom Gwyneth Paltrow bragged about the Grammy Award–winner's ability to power through sets despite morning sickness. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Gwyneth said watching Queen Bey headline the Glastonbury Festival was special—and not only because of her performance. "She was absolutely incredible, especially as she was barfing in between," she told the magazine.

Morning sickness hit hard when model/actress Ali Landry was pregnant with her second child, Marcelo Alejandro. She told People in 2011 that she "was definitely more nauseous—basically morning, noon and night, and eating horribly, like tons of carbs." The only thing that eased her tummy? The same thing she probably asked for as a kid: grilled cheese sandwiches!

Tia Mowry

Instead of snacking on crackers to cure her morning sickness, actress and entrepreneur Tia Mowry found a nonedible solution when she was pregnant with her son, Cree Taylor. "The nausea kind of got the best of me," she said during a 2011 interview on Access Hollywood Live. "I actually wear these nausea bands—they're like motion sickness bands that people wear on, like, cruise ships and stuff,—and they have been my best friends. They're part of my wardrobe now."

Sometimes the third isn't the charm—or at least it wasn't for celeb mama Tori Spelling. In 2011, she confessed to US Weekly that pregnancy number three was the toughest. "I have actually been much sicker this pregnancy than the other two," she said. "I have been nauseous for three months straight."

Mariah Carey

Being pregnant with twins Moroccan and Monroe didn't stop powerhouse singer Mariah Carey from performing. Unfortunately, the two didn't mix well together, as she explained in a 2010 interview with USA Today. "Throwing up is bad for your voice," she said of her morning sickness. "The reflux is terrible, so I've been trying to just keep calm, get through it." Still, even with all of her stomach woes, Carey stayed focused on the day when she could bring her son and daughter into the world: "This year will be exceptionally meaningful," she told the newspaper. "I'm just so grateful for everything."

When Natalie Portman was expecting her son, Aleph, she not only craved "anything with vinegar" but also experienced some morning sickness in her first trimester. She told Britain's Sunday Mirror, "I had a bit of sickness at the beginning, but I'm feeling good now." And after overcoming the initial bout of nausea, the actress added that she feels "very lucky. It's been a really, really lucky, lucky time."

It's not always like mother, like daughter, especially when it comes to pregnancies. Just ask Gwyneth Paltrow, who struggled with morning sickness when she was expecting daughter Apple and son Moses. In a 2008 interview with Harper's Bazaar, the goop founder and chief creative officer revealed, "My mother loved each [pregnancy] to bits; she felt alive and beautiful. I wanted to throw up all the time."

Kate Winslet

Pregnancy wasn't exactly how Kate Winslet envisioned it. In fact, the award-winning actress declared it the hardest role she's ever had. "Morning sickness, swollen ankles, and a bad back made the whole thing quite a performance," she wrote in the foreword of the book Natural Pregnancy. "Before I was pregnant [with daughter Mia Honey, born in 2000.], I thought I knew exactly how I would feel—confident, blooming and sexy—the way celebrities are expected to feel." Instead, she said she felt more like a "large red London bus than a film star." Even with all the trouble, Winslet went on to have two more children: Bear Blaze and Joe Alfie.
