Q: Is it bad for both parents to leave for a two-week vacation leaving a five-year-old and two-year-old with family members? Does this cause anything negative for the children?

A: Go for it. As long as your children are with caregivers that they (and you) know, love, and trust, there should be no harm done. It's important for parents to take care of their relationship, and to send the message to the kids that they will be okay. I will say, however, that children who are particularly sensitive might need a shorter time apart than you have planned. Experiment with a short separation first -- perhaps a weekend away -- and let that guide your decision.
