Back in the ‘90s and early 2000s kids obsessed over their American Girl Dolls like they were their own children. Parents dished out major dollars, so their children could have the works of Felicity, Kirsten, and Addy merch, from the books to the outfits. Looking back after all these years, it may have seemed like all that money was for nothing, but as it turns out the American Girl Dolls were quite the investment.
One search on eBay proves that the American Girl Dolls—if in good condition—are worth a pretty penny. Just check out this Samantha White doll who is going for $595 along with her bedroom set and clothing selection.
One Molly Doll fit with accessories is currently selling for $3,000 on eBay as well. We’d like to say we always knew what these dolls would be worth one day, but we never excepted this at 7-years-old.
Antique appraiser Lori Verderame, Ph.D., told TODAY that dolls from the original American Girl Doll manufacturer, Pleasant Company, can be worth more if in proper condition. The company was purchased by Mattel in 1998. Verderame also told the site that Mattel made dolls can be worth a good profit too depending on the doll, the age of the doll, accessories included, and the condition all of those factors are in.
Of course, just like any thrift item, offering good condition, original packaging can go a long way as far as adding extra value to the product.
Seems like nostalgia never goes out of style, even in the form of human-like dolls. It may be time to dig through your parent’s attic for an extra influx of cash. We could all use it after the holidays ran us dry.
