In the midst of this unusual, daunting moment, there's nothing like a few familiar faces to offer comfort—for kids and adults alike. That's why it's especially heartening to see that Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, has launched an initiative called "Caring for Each Other," which features new content to support caregivers and kids throughout the coronavirus outbreak. The latest part of the campaign: several animated PSAs, featuring Elmo and other Sesame Street Muppets learning crucial lessons about personal hygiene.

For instance, in one clip that's an updated version of Elmo's signature tune "Brushy Brush" (about brushing your teeth), Elmo learns how to "washy wash" his hands. Another clip on "washy wash"-ing features multiple characters and reminds viewers that taking care of yourself is taking care of others.

In another, Grover shares how to cough and sneeze properly. And kids are also sure to giggle as Rooster reminds various characters, such as Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby, to wash their hands in a fourth clip. Each has been produced in Spanish, as well as 18 other languages.

The spots will air in the U.S. and globally through partners like HBO, PBS KIDS and local PBS stations, Univision, the Ad Council, YouTube, Sesame Street in Communities partners, and international broadcast partners.

Dr. Jeanette Betancourt, Senior Vice President of US Social Impact, Sesame Workshop, said of the initiative in a press release, "Sesame Street is there for children and families whether it’s a sunny day or a stormy one, and unfortunately many families are facing unprecedented challenges right now. Through Caring for Each Other, we’re committed to supporting families for the duration of this crisis and beyond—equipping them with the tools they need to get through this together and look to the future with hope and optimism."

To that end, Sesame Workshop has released valuable resources like info on talking to your child about COVID-19, self-care for parents, and creating routines during "the for-now normal." Parents and caregivers can also sign up for a weekly guide to new Sesame Street activities and strategies here.

Sesame Street episodes are also available on HBO, PBS stations, and the PBS KIDS 24/7 channel, with an expanded offering of free on-demand episodes of Sesame Street on PBS KIDS digital platforms. And over 110 free Sesame Street ebooks are available on all major ebook platforms.

Here's hoping families everywhere feel extra support from their beloved Sesame Street friends.
