Sesame Street's Characters Get Fashion Makeovers From InStyle

February 27, 2019

Telling someone they're "dressed like Big Bird" used to be an insult, but now, we'd take it as the ultimate compliment! That's because the "Sesame Street" star and his pals Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Bert, and Ernie recently teamed up with InStyle for some very fashionable muppet makeovers.

It all started when the colorful crew got an invitation to "Sesame Street's" 50th birthday party that called for them to "dress to impress." Big Bird and co. weren't exactly sure what that meant they should wear, so Elmo suggested they pay a visit to the office of Laura Brown, the Editor-in-Chief of InStyle.

"Ms. Laura" was happy to help the "Sesame Street" stars find their perfect outfits for the party. "We have a fashion emergency," she declared. "All hands on deck!"

The InStyle team opened up the fashion closet, and Brown began calling up big name designers from her Rolodex. Not surprisingly, everyone wanted to dress the "Sesame Street" stars, and Brown matched each muppet to just the right designer: Big Bird in Anna Sui, Elmo in Opening Ceremony, Cookie Monster in Rosie Assoulin, Abby Cadabby in Marc Jacobs, and Bert and Ernie in Isaac Mizrahi.

"You guys look fantastic," Brown told the gang—and she wasn't kidding. They looked amazing, happy, and confident in clothes that suited each of their personalities. The only problem? Sesame Street's 50th birthday isn't until November!

Abby Cadabby was disappointed she "got all dressed up for nothing," but Brown put her worries at ease. "Oh, honey," she said, "you never get dressed up for nothing."

From there, the well-dressed "Sesame Street" stars had their very own InStyle fashion shoot. They struck pose after pose and looked good doing it. As Big Bird said to the camera, "It's called fashion. Look it up!"

Each "Sesame Street" star even got their own mock InStyle magazine cover. It was a fantastic foray into fashion for the whole gang. For Cookie Monster, though, the highlight what he got to wear. "Me love all the snacks," he said. "Again, snacks. Me favorite part of everything always snacks."

Hey, the clothes don't make the Cookie Monster—the cookies do!
