Mom Fired for Facebook Post Threatening Moms Who Breastfeed in Public
South Carolina local Carly Clarke wrote that she'd give any woman a black eye who "tries to whip her boob out" in front of her kids. She then went on to threaten the baby breastfeeding too.
Spartanburg, South Carolina mother Carly Clark is making headlines after threatening to punch any woman and her child if they chose to breastfeed in front of her children via a Facebook post. The now-deleted post prompted outrage amongst woman everywhere, disappointed in her repressive and violent mentality.
The post read, "I’m not sorry–the next female that tries to whip her boob out to breastfeed in front of my kids will get a black eye, move that baby [because] I’ll punch it too #zerocare #why #inpublicletsjustshowkidsboobs #notmine,” according to fatherly.com.
She has since been let go from her job at the pet store chain Petsense. Petsense took to Facebook to share their thoughts on the incident along with a public apology.
Petsense’s post alone received over 1.2K likes, 1k comments, and over 100 shares as costumers both express their outrage and thanked the company for handling the altercation properly.
Fatherly.com also reported that when confronted, Clark refused to apologize stating that her comment was only directed at one person. She continued saying, “Do what you want, but I find it very immature that you as a mother would go out of your way to come to a place that you know I work at and breastfeed.” She continued, “[I don’t care] who breastfeeds when my kids aren’t around. Pulling your boob out in front of my kids on purpose just to prove a point is simply represented by who you are as a person.”
Although moments that bring to light these disturbing comments are small setbacks for the normalizing breastfeeding movement, the outpour of people condemning Clark's behavior proves that this is a worthy fight woman everywhere will not be taking lightly.
