Kingston Pharma, LLC has recalled its two-fluid ounce bottles of ‘Health Naturals baby cough syrup + mucus.’ The medication could be contaminated with Bacillus cereus, a bacteria that causes gastrointestinal illness.
The recalled medications were sold at Dollar General stores. They have a lot number KL180157 and an expiration date of 11/20. On the back of the label, you’ll find UPC Code 8 54954 00250 0.
Although no illnesses have been reported, an audit test detected Bacillus cereus in some bottles. A statement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration clarifies that one in ten bottles showed low levels of Bacillus cereus, while two in ten bottles showed low levels of Bacillus circulans.
Bacillus cereus is a gastrointestinal illness that causes vomiting and diarrhea. “Most often, illnesses are mild and self-limiting, although more serious and even lethal cases have occurred. Individuals at risk for more severe forms of illness include infants, young children, and others with weakened immune systems,” according to the FDA statement.
Kingston Pharma, LLC has halted production of ‘Health Naturals baby cough syrup + mucus.’ The FDA urges consumers with a recalled product to return it on exchange for a refund.
