Lavinia Spalding

Lavinia Spalding is the author of Writing Away: A Creative Guide to Awakening the Journal-Writing Traveler, the six-time series editor of The Best Women’s Travel Writing, and the co-author of With a Measure of Grace, This Immeasurable Place, and the 2022 Frommer’s EasyGuide to New Orleans. She’s also co-host of the storytelling podcast There She Goes.

Lavinia introduced the e-book edition of Edith Wharton’s classic travelogue A Motor-Flight Through France, and her writing has appeared in The New York Times’ Modern Love column, AFAR, Tin House, Longreads, Yoga Journal, Post Road, Sunset, AirBnB magazine, Ms., The San Francisco Chronicle, The Guardian, and many more national and international publications. Her work has won gold Lowell Thomas and SOLAS travel writing awards, has been widely anthologized, and has been noted in The Best American Travel Writing. Her TEDx talk on how travel writing can change the world has been viewed more than 55,000 times. Lavinia teaches writing workshops around the world and lives with her family in New Orleans and on Cape Cod. She is currently at work on a memoir about living with ghosts as a child and searching for those ghosts as an adult.
