Kweli I. Wright Title: Freelance writer Education: Pace University Location: Atlanta, GA Kweli I. Wright is an experienced parenting, beauty, and celebrity/entertainment journalist who has been writing and editing parenting stories for over a decade.HighlightsI’m a mom to a 17-year-old named Sascha. People assume she’s named after Beyonce’s alter ego because of my obsession with her, but my daughter’s name was actually inspired by Seinfeld's daughter (same spelling) and Obama's daughter (spelled without the "c").I owned a dessert catering company with my mom for 10 years, launched when I made all of the desserts for my best friend’s bridal shower. We also attended Peter Kump’s Cooking School together (now ICE Culinary Institute of Education).Concerts are my happy place, so I'm excited to be going to them again. My years of working in the music industry allowed me to indulge. There’s always a song playing in my head. I was born in Stamford, Connecticut, but never lived there. That’s where my mom’s family is from.I’m currently obsessed with all things minimalism (likely an after-effect of accumulating so much stuff from online reselling). Experience I’m currently the senior social media editor at EBONY. Most recently, I was a parenting writer for SheKnows.com and CafeMom.com, covering everything from kids' fashion and baby health to children’s entertainment products and parenting a teen, to trending/current parenting news and celebrity parent interviews. Just prior to that, I was tapping into a few passion projects including online fashion reselling, virtual interior design, and website design, all the while continuing my love of writing by taking on freelance editorial projects. Before that, I was the parenting editor at MadameNoire, a copy editor at Juicy Magazine, a managing editor at Global Grind, a web producer at BET, and an online marketing producer at AOL Time Warner Book Group. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Pace University. During college, I interned at the local newspaper, The Staten Island Advance, which would then become my first full-time job after graduating. I was quickly recruited by The Village Voice where I served as assistant to the editor-in-chief and also began writing about music and culture there, as well as at Vibe, XXL, and The Source magazines. My favorite purchase recently would be a bunch of makeup from Bobbi Brown's brand, Jones Road. I have been eyeing the brand for a while and love Bobbi's approach to makeup and beauty, less is more, so I finally treated myself to her Miracle Balm, What The Foundation, a couple of Face Pencils, and mascara. They're perfect!
