A woman named Crystal Holcombe—who was eight months pregnant—as well as three of her children and her father-in-law, are five of the 26 victims of the mass shooting that took place at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, yesterday. Holcombe's cousin Nick Uhlig shared the devastating news with the San Antonio Express-News.Holcombe's two other children were injured by the gunman, Devin Kelley, and are currently in critical condition.
Uhlig described Holcombe to The Houston Chronicle: “She doesn’t even drink, smoke or nothing. She just takes care of kids, she raises goats and makes homemade cheese. That kind of thing. They don’t go out dancing or anything like that. They’re real old-fashioned, down-to-earth.”
Holcombe's father-in-law, Bryan Holcombe, had done ministry work at a prison, Uhlig told the Chronicle. “He would go up to the prison with ukulele to sing.”
On Sunday night, Holcombe's husband, John, took to Facebook to share, "Sunday School lesson is about Manna from Heaven - found in Exodus 16." In response, he's received nearly 200 comments of support, prayers, and condolences.
Meanwhile, others have posted to Crystal's timeline. “Keep the Holcombe family in your prayers,” a commenter named Hank Summers wrote, to which another named Kimberly Mair replied, “I do not know your family but I am lifting you all up in prayer."
In addition to the Holcombes, 21 more lives were taken in the nightmarish shooting. Victims ranging in age from five to 72 years old, and 20 more were injured, according to local police.
