In Boston's extensive Cerebral Palsy Program, researchers are studying how touch-screen therapy may benefit children who need upper extremity or cognitive rehabilitation. The hospital is leading a global multi-center study to determine the optimal age for microsurgical repair in infants with brachial plexus birth palsy and persistent upper extremity weakness. Past accomplishments include ACL tissue regeneration, growth plate-sparing surgical options, and minimally invasive treatments for hip disorders.
Two years ago, the hospital opened a Motion Analysis Gait Lab, which uses high-tech diagnostic instruments to allow doctors to determine exactly how a patient walks, how his joints move, and how his muscles function.
It's a pioneer in limb-sparing surgery for cancers of the bone like osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and Ewing sarcoma. Its sports-medicine department sees more than 8,000 kids annually, offering pre-participation sports physicals, on-field medical coverage, and injury-prevention programs.

To help children avoid scoliosis surgery, Rady Children's Hospital is testing a minimally invasive spinal implant. Early results are positive. Doctors are also studying a new technique for rotator-cuff repairs.
It was one of the first hospitals in the nation to have an EOS scanner, a sharper 3-D option that provides up to ten times less radiation than X-rays and up to 99 percent less than a CT scan of the spine.
The hospital is only one of a handful of facilities in Parents' survey to have a rehabilitation unit certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Its 30-bed facility includes the "Dome" -- a cute, common play area.
The joint program between these two hospitals has loads of experience, performing more than 4,000 surgeries in 2011. All of the orthopedic surgeons are highly qualified, with board certification and a pediatric-training fellowship.
It offers a certified pediatric rehab unit and specialty programs focusing on computer gait and limb-sparing bone tumors. It also published more than five dozen orthopedic-related studies in 2011.
The hospital boasts specialty orthopedic clinics, including those for spina bifida, hip dislocation, and connective tissue disease.
