Dr. Harold Koplewicz, President of the Child Mind Institute, and Diane Debrover, Deputy Editor of Parents, discuss concerns about medicating children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
I am a grandparent of a 15 year old boy who is failing at school, has horrible personal hygiene, and is extremely disorganized and messy. He is on medication for ADHD (for last few yrs), has a home therapist, and an IEP at school. However, I know almost nothing about how to help him, and have had him living with me for the last 14 months. The teachers want him to conform to their way of learning but are not willing to adapt to his way of learning. He is an auditory learner. I'm so frustrated as is he. Can you please direct me to someone who can educate me and help him be successful? No one seems to be able to give me any answers. I'm lost and . Pretty pathetic, right? I can't even find an online support group to help. Thank you. Carol
