In an epic 2000s TV drama matchup, former Dawson's Creek and Gilmore Girls cast members, James Van Der Beek and Lauren Graham, are pairing up as vampire parents, Boris and Oxana Hauntley, in Disney Channel's latest animated TV show Vampirina. The series features Vampirina (aka "Vee") and the Hauntley family as they adjust to moving from Transylvania to Pennsylvania. Follow Vee as she faces the joys and trials of being the new kid in town, where she learns to celebrate individualism as she struggles to blend in with her human peers.
Other big names to listen for throughout the upcoming series include Tony Award-winning Broadway performers Patti LuPone ("Evita") and Brian Stokes Mitchell ("Kiss Me, Kate") as Vee's grandparents, Nanpire and Grandpop. Wanda Sykes (ABC's "black-ish") can also be heard as the voice of Vee's argumentative-yet-loyal gargoyle sidekick, Gregoria. Not to mention the series will feature music by Broadway composers Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond.
Vampirina—which was inspired by Disney Publishing's popular children's book series Vampirina Ballerina, will have your kids swooning over multiple original songs and cool characters that are featured along the way. Between Vee's school adventures and the many eclectic visitors of Boris and Oxana's local Scare B&B (a bed and breakfast for visiting ghouls and goblins), this series is going to be a no-brainer hit.
The Disney Junior's first vampire series for preschoolers is set to premiere Sunday, October 1st, on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and the new Disney NOW app.
