Dora the Explorer has stolen audiences' hearts for 18 years, so it's about time that the beloved Latina character made her way to the big screen in an epic, live-action adventure! Paramount Players announced last week that the motion picture adaptation of the Nickelodeon children’s animated series has started shooting on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
The flick stars 17-year-old Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight, Sicario: Day of the Soldado) as Dora and one of Mexico's biggest stars, Eugenio Derbez (Overboard) as Alejandro, a mysterious jungle inhabitant who tries to protect teens from marauders.
Paramount also shared the gist of the plot: "Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents nothing could prepare Dora for the most dangerous adventure ever: high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization."

Clearly, audiences are in for a treat. You'll want to circle Dora's release date—August 2, 2019!—on your calendar now.
