April Showers Party Plan

You'll be singing (Happy Birthday!) in the rain at this inspired bash. Umbrellas and rainboots make fun and functional decor. Guests can make their own rainbows, then feast on rainboot cookies and puddle cupcakes. Send them home with personalized umbrellas to use on that next rainy day.

Catch a Rainbow

Hang clear umbrellas upside down to catch bright lanterns in a rainbow of colors. Blue circle garlands hang vertically to look like raindrops.

Rainbow Making

Use food coloring to pre-dye your favorite noodles into every color of the rainbow. Print out rainbow drawings and put out the colored noodles, cotton balls and plenty of glue, so guests can glue their way to a perfect rainbow.

Rainboot Cookies

Bright red rainboot sugar cookies add a pop of color to a rainy day party.

Rain Puddle Cupcakes

Make your favorite white cake recipe or cake mix, then pour 1/3 of the batter in a separate bowl. Color that batter blue with food coloring. Mix blue sprinkles into the rest of the batter. Fill the cupcake tins about 1/3 full with the colored batter, then fill it with the sprinkle batter. Bake as directed, then cool and top with fluffy white frosting for a cloud effect -- and a cute paper umbrella, of course!

Monogrammed Umbrellas

To make these fun personalized umbrellas, print a large initial in a font you like, then trace it onto an open umbrella with pencil. Sew buttons in a variety of colors and sizes onto the umbrella to fill in the shape.

Cute Clouds

Create puffy clouds by stuffing white paper or felt, and stitching around the edges. Attach them to a striped straw and plant them in cute watering cans. A piece of paneling is painted blue and strung with garlands to give it a rainy day effect.
