Shopping for school supplies can be hard on your wallet. Here's how you can save on back to school clothes.

Pom-Pom Frock

Our favorite retro trim adds charm and texture to a plain tank dress. The technique can spiff up a tee as well.

You will need:
Chalk or fabric pen
Crewneck tank dress
3 1?2 yards of pom-pom trim in various colors
Fabric glue (we used Fabri-Tac)

1. With the chalk or the fabric pen, mark a line across the tank from armhole to armhole (ours is about 1 1/2 inches above the underarm seam). Snipping between pom-poms, cut a length of trim as long as this line.

2. Run a bead of fabric glue along the trim tape. Firmly press the trim onto the tank at the marked line. Be sure to glue down the ends so that the edges won't fray.

3. Measure and cut another length of trim to lie 1/4 inch above the first, then glue it in place. Repeat, varying colors, until you've applied the desired amount of trim.

The Sweetest Bling

You will need:
Pom-pom trim
No-fray glue (we used Fray-Stop)
Embroidery floss
Tapestry needle
Chain necklace (with links large enough to pass the needle through)

1. Cut the pom-pom trim to the desired length. To prevent fraying, apply glue to the ends and let it dry.

2. With a knotted length of the floss and the needle, sew a few stitches at one end of the trim as shown.

3. Center the trim on the chain. Starting at the back, sew the pom-poms to the necklace with a running stitch through the links.

4. At the far end, sew several stitches around the raw edge, securing it with a knot at the back. Apply a drop of glue to each knot to secure.
