The singer Fantasia Barrino revealed on "The Wendy Williams Show" that she will be having a boy, due on December 29. She also said in the phone interview that she is currently at home on bed rest.
The 2004 "American Idol" winner, already mother to a 9-year-old daughter, Zion, confirmed her pregnancy in August. The news sparked rumored complications for her planned role as legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in an upcoming film. The film's producers were allegedly angry that Barrino did not tell them about her pregnancy until she was 4 months along--FOXNews.com reports that she claimed she was putting on weight for the role.
Jackson's family also were reported to be angry that Barrino is allegedly pregnant with a married man's child--though Barrino has not revealed the father's identity, she has been linked to Antwaun Cook, a North Carolina man who allegedly started seeing Barrino before he divorced his wife.
But new information suggests the situation is less extreme. The production company, Double Dutch Productions, told The New York Post in a statement today that the objections had been circulated by a financial backer for the film who had no right to speak for either the production team or the family.
"The Mahalia Jackson family has not made any negative comments, none whatsoever, about Ms. Barrino and her participation in this film project," the statement said, adding that the film's production is simply delayed by her pregnancy.
