Naming Babies After Pets

If you're a follower of the British soap "Coronation Street," you might be interested to know that Chesney Brown and Katy Armstrong will be naming their Christmas baby Joseph Peter.

If you're not a fan of the show (as, admittedly, many of us are not), this is still an interesting name situation. The couple chooses the middle name Peter to honor... a beloved dead dog.

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, a pet can be dearly loved, and how better to name your child than after an honored member of the family? On the other hand... it's a dog. Your child will be forever linked to a canine (or feline, or aquatic, whatever it may be) being.

What do you think? Is it an honor or an abhorrence to name a child after a pet?
