Baby gates may be the first thing you think of when you baby proof, but buying one is only Step 1 to keeping your kid safe. Make sure the safety gates are installed correctly to prevent any accidental falls. Follow these child safety tips to help keep your child safe around the stairs.
[MUSIC] Every year, nearly 100,000 thousand children are taken to ER's, for injuries that happen on stairs. Usually in the home. That works out to an injury every six minutes. Never use a pressure mounted gate on a stairway. Pressure mounted gates are great for doorways, but not for a staircase where they can be pushed on, and made loose. [MUSIC] Always have your staircase gates, open out, and away from the staircase. This is especially true at the top of the stairs, where your baby might be leaning on the gate, and and when it opens, the baby could fall down the stairs. For that reason, always have your staircase gates open out, and away from the stairs. [MUSIC]
