Babies Diapering Should I use baby wipes on my newborn? By Parents Editors Published on July 2, 2015 Share Tweet Pin Email Q: Should I use baby wipes on my newborn? A: Many popular baby wipes contain ingredients that can trigger allergic reactions for some babies with sensitive skin, so although it's probably fine to use them right away, many doctors recommend playing it safe and waiting until your baby's at least 1 month old. For the first few weeks, you can clean your baby during diaper changes with an ultra-soft paper towel or clean cloth and warm water; if necessary, dab on a gentle baby wash soap. Always pat the area dry with a towel before putting on a fresh diaper to prevent diaper rash. Once your baby's older, wipes can very convenient, especially for changing diapers on the go. Choose a brand that's alcohol-free and unscented, which will minimize irritation. If your baby's bum looks red after you've used a wipe, it may be causing a reaction. You may need to test out a few types to find one that best agrees with your baby's birthday suit. It's always a good idea to call the pediatrician about any rashes that don't improve within a few days. Copyright 2009 Meredith Corporation. Answered by Parents.com-Team Was this page helpful?
