No wacky baby name for this new celebrity dad!

Just in time for Father's Day, actor Eddie Redmayne—you know, the bloke who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything—is officially a dad! The star just welcomed a baby girl with his wife Hannah Bagshawe, and the couple gave her a very colorful, although not at all bizarre, name.

Iris Mary is the sweet newborn's moniker, according to Refinery 29. This floral-inspired name is also associated with the messenger-goddess in Greek mythology who made deliveries for Olympus by riding rainbows between heaven and earth.

Phew! So, no out-there name to compete with the slew of others in Hollywood. That could have been a close one.

Because let's face it: Eddie Redmayne seems a little quirky, no? Don't believe me? Just watch him in the preview for J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is soon to hit theaters. I'm just guessing names like Newt and Porpentina were suggested at some point in Hannah's pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Redmayne couldn't be more over the moon about his first child's arrival if his announcement in the British paper The Times is any indication! And who can blame him? When we have welcomed our children into the world, I wanted to shout it from the rooftops. I settled for an ever-less-subtle Facebook post instead. You know, logistics, being in the hospital and all.

Here's hoping the Redmayne family enjoys their first days together! And of course, the happiest of Father's Days to one of my favorite, and clearly one of the most talented, actors out there!

What do you think of the baby name Iris?
