The Sport Illustrated's SI Swimsuit 2017 Edition belongs to the moms! Who are over 30, by the way. Can we get a "hell ya!"
Christie Brinkley, age, ahem, 63 (WHAT?!?) and her daughters—Alexa Ray Joel, who is 31, and Sailor Brinkley Cook, age 18—were among the models who posed for the iconic issue.
"This is a real full circle moment for me," the impossibly-gorgeous mama told Sports Illustrated on set. "I can get very emotional about this. How many years ago, I was that insecure girl hoping that I would be good enough for the magazine. So to see my daughters now having the same thoughts I had, and to be able to see them actually be there on the job, was definitely a big moment."
I love how Brinkley is still confident enough to show off her sexy side at her age. How inspiring for her girls, and, um, every woman in America! I love how she is proving that beauty doesn't have an expiration date.
Chrissy Teigen, age 31 and a much newer mom, also posed for the issue. And she did so after having just given birth to her daughter Luna a few months before. Just that alone takes major moxie!
"I haven't shot since baby," the mama said during her shoot. But it seemed she was open to embracing the changes to her body, maybe moreso than I might be so soon after giving birth. At first, however, Teigen admittedly only wanted to wear one-pieces, with a blanket thrown over her. Phew! What a relief that she's not a cyborg who automatically loved her postpartum body, no questions asked.
It was the experience of being back in her "element" that turned out to be empowering for Teigen in regaining her self-image. And I can imagine why! Whether reclaiming your identity means being in SI, or running a 5K race, or even curling up with a good book uninterrupted, those things that make us feel like ourselves are crucial reminders that even though our lives have changed completely now that we're moms, we are still in there!
Meanwhile, mom-of-two Bianca Balti, age 32, is one of this year's Rookie models.
"When I was pregnant with my second baby I almost gained 50 pounds," admitted Balti, adding, "I enjoyed my pregnancy, but then I had to lose the weight for work... But I've never felt so empowered like I did when I got back in shape because, besides feeling good about my body, it's just empowering to set a goal and make it happen."
Balti says about her 9-year-old daughter seeing her almost naked in SI, "But the message she gets from these photos is that Mommy works hard to give her the things she wants. I want to show them that they can do whatever they want." She adds about her kids, "They see the sacrifices that I do. They see when I'm tired and jet-lagged, but I still wake up to take them to school. For me, I want to show them that no matter what they want to do in life, whether it's to start a business, become a mom, whatever—as a woman, you can do it."
Amen, Bianca! We bow down to you, and the other awesome moms in this year's issue.
