Gerber is synonymous with an adorable baby, and the original L.O. to model for the brand was Ann Turner Cook. She was the super-cute kid chosen to advertise for the baby food brand back in 1928. Fast-forward 90 years, and although Cook still remains on the brand's iconic trademark logo, the Gerber Spokesbaby 2018 is 1-year-old Lucas Warren from Dalton, Georgia. The two Gerber babies recently met for the first time, and a photo of them together is going viral.
Gerber told ABC News in a statement that the Warrens were on a trip near Cook's home and asked if Gerber could arrange the meeting. "Gerber saw this as the perfect opportunity for the two iconic Gerber babies to meet in person," a spokesperson wrote in an email. "As you can see in this photo, Ann Turner Cook and Lucas were all smiles when they met!"
The Warrens said that Cook and Lucas "immediately bonded." "Lucas walked right up to her, flashing his signature smile and waving, and we could tell he loved her right away," the Warrens told ABC News in a statement today, Wednesday, June 6. "He even grabbed two cookies and offered her one, which she accepted! Ann Turner Cook is truly a wonderful woman and pleasure to be around, and we couldn’t be more grateful that she took the time to meet with our family."
The baby food brand has been choosing new spokesbabies every year since 2010, and back in February, Gerber announced that Warren, who has Down syndrome, would be the 2018 Gerber Spokesbaby. Bernadette Tortorella, senior media manager for Gerber, told Good Morning America that Lucas was chosen from 140,000 entries for "the twinkle in his eye and his rosy cheeks." Aww!
Meanwhile, Cortney Warren, Lucas' mom, described her son as "very energetic, loves to make others laugh. He's never met a stranger." And Lucas' dad, Jason Warren, said that his son being chosen was "an honor. He has a platform to spread joy to everyone and we can't wait to see how much he changes people’s perception on what it means to be a baby with Down syndrome."
Clearly, there's so much to love about the 2018 spokesbaby—and his meet 'n' greet with the lady who started it all!
