Nearly two years ago, Francine and David Wheeler were plunged into every parent's worst nightmare when their 6-year-old son, Benjamin, was killed during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. But today, the family has a reason to smile: On November 5, Francine, 47, gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Matthew Bennett.
Now back in their Connecticut home, the Wheelers have been busy caring for the newborn, an experience that has been "amazing" so far for the family, proud dad David told the New York Daily News. "We never imagined we would be here again — try to schedule sleep and everything that goes with it," he said. "But it's been really beautiful."
Even the Wheelers' 11-year-old son, Nate, is immersed in all things baby. In fact, he's already mastered the three biggest duties: feeding, changing diapers, and putting baby to sleep. "It's such a beautiful thing to watch the two of them together — and see now they have each other," David said of his boys. (Aww.)
Congratulations to the Wheeler family and welcome to the world, baby Matthew!
