Megan Johnson gave birth to daughter Eilee at 2:40 a.m. on June 27. The delivery was beautiful and smooth. Afterwards, she stayed awake feeding her baby girl and talking to her husband, Nathan, a guitar player for a Christian rock band. They couldn't sleep because they were too excited. But then, around 10 a.m., Megan started to have complications. By 11 a.m., sadly, the 31-year-old new mom was dead.
Megan had apparently received a heart transplant seven years ago, after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. And while the doctors don't yet know her exact cause of death, good friend and bandmate Josh Wilson told People that the family was told it was not related to Megan's heart. In fact, after the delivery, Nathan headed over to Instagram to let his followers know that her heart had "worked perfectly the whole time":
So sad to read that now!
"Nathan is devastated," Wilson explained on the Go Fund Me page he started in the wake of Megan's death in order to help his friend take six months off from touring to take care of Eilee and cover their expenses. "There are no words for this, so I won't really say much more. Here is what I know. Nathan is a wonderful man and an amazing father. He loves his daughter dearly."
In the first 24 hours, the page has already raked in a quarter of a million dollars—"I can't quit crying," Wilson wrote—and now, just four day later, that number is inching closer and closer to the half-million dollar mark.
"All of you have shown such immeasurable love and support to Nathan and Eilee," Wilson explained in a recent update. "Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Nathan is blown away. He's humbled and grateful. He and Eilee are the sweetest little family. Meg would want me to tell you all to become organ donors. My wife and I signed up yesterday."
