Mindy Kaling Reportedly Welcomes Her First Child
The Mindy Project star has given birth to her little girl!
Mindy Kaling is a mom! The Mindy Project creator welcomed her first child, a baby girl, on Friday, December 15, E! News reports they've learned exclusively. The baby's beautiful name is also treat for anyone who loves alliteration! It's Katherine Kaling, E! notes.
Back in October, the comedian revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she was expecting a girl, and she confirmed earlier in the year, on NBC's Sunday Today, that she was expecting.
Of motherhood, Kaling told host Willie Geist, “It’s so unknown to me. I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I’m like, ‘OK, it’s out of my hands,’ which is kind of a fun feeling.”
She also told NBC that she would like to be "the fun mom, I'd like to be the fun mom, I know I'm gonna be the dorky mom. So if I can be kind of fun too, I think that would be nice."
Outside of those quickie comments, Kaling has been rather tight-lipped about her pregnancy and the details surrounding the baby. For instance, she hasn't identified the baby's father. Not that she owes any additional info to the public whatsoever!
In fact, her Wrinkle in Time co-star Oprah was the one to initially share the big news with People. “My mouth dropped," Winfrey said after Kaling told her that she was expecting. “‘What did you just say?’ She said, ‘Oh, Oprah, I don’t think you know. I’m five months pregnant.’ And I said, ‘Whaaat?!’”

Kaling later chatted with Ellen DeGeneres about that moment: "At first it was like, 'OK, if anyone was going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person.' You can't complain that much about it. You also can't be like, 'Hey, Oprah, zip it.' Because she's almost like a religious figure. I actually thought, 'Well, OK, if there's one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah's pretty good!' At a certain point, I was like, you can't take it back, so I thought—there are worse things."
That's for sure! Congrats to the new mom!
