Clarkson announced the release date of her first children's book, inspired by daughter River Rose.
What does an American Idol queen, Grammy Award-winner, and expectant mom do in her spare time? Write children's books, of course!
"I'm officially a children's book author," Kelly Clarkson annouced via Twitter yesterday. "River Rose and the Magical Lullaby comes out this October!"
River Rose is Clarkson's 19-month-old daughter. The 33-year-old star shared a two-minute promo video that explained how the project, centered around her firstborn, came to be. "We were going on trips to the U.K. and Asia and Australia—you know, just all these amazing places that she was too little to remember, basically," said Clarkson, who wrote and performed a lullaby to accompany the book. "So, I started writing down these little fun stories of, like, when we went to Australia and she got to hang out with some kangaroos. I thought I'd just write little cute stories for her and put little pictures with it. And that was the initial idea. Those little stories ended up turning into a book."
In the story, River Rose is so excited for her first trip to the zoo that she can't fall asleep. Luckily, her mother's lullaby sends her on a dreamy adventure.

"The first time I heard Kelly talk about this project, I knew it was something special," said David Linker, executive editor at HarperCollins Children's Books. "Her passion for the story and musical ear for the rhythm and melody that make for great storytelling was evident from the very first draft. It's been a true labor of love."
At least for Clarkson. For River Rose, it's another story. "I can't even get her to work, I'm pulling this train all by myself," Clarkson joked. "She's like sleeping on the job, she's eating all the time—she's always hungry."
The book won't be available until October 2016, but you can pre-order a copy now on Clarkson's website.
