Jay-Z Just Explained Why He & Beyonce Chose the Twins' Names

The rapper opened up about why he and Beyonce went with Rumi and Sir for their twins, born back in June.

Ever since Jay-Z and Beyonce welcomed their twins back in June, fans have been waiting to learn the meaning behind their unique monikers: Rumi and Sir. Finally, the proud dad of three has opened up about why he and Queen Bey went with those particular baby names

"Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter," Jay said in the second part of his interview with Rap Radar podcast hosts Elliot Wilson and Brian "B.Dot" Miller, which was released on Friday, August 25. "And then Sir was, like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir." Makes sense that they would want to pay tribute to the 13th century Persian poet with their youngest daughter's name -- and that they went with the name they felt fit their baby boy!

Jay went onto explain that right now, he's devoting a bit of a paternity leave to the twins. "I booked the tour for October so I could have at least four months ... to just really bond and see their fingers and s--t like that," he said. "They'll be with me [on tour] anyway, but I'm just saying, like, [I needed] a space where I'm not doing nothing, I'm just focused on them. I'm not thinking about a show at night or anything like that. That's why the tour is so far away from the release of the album."

He also shared a cute tidbit about his eldest, Blue Ivy, 5, who rapped a freestyle on a track off of his new album 4:44. "She got the headphones and she climbed on the little stool, and then she just started rapping,'" Jay-Z recalled. "I have [her full freestyle] on my phone. Five minutes! Five minutes of her doing that. ... She kept doing that 'boom shakalaka, boom shakalaka' [part]. I was like, 'Oh, she understands the concept of a hook.' She's 5, and she understands the concept of a hook. One of the great memories." Aww!

Can't wait to see how the two L.O.s end up following in their famous parents' footsteps, too. With magnetic names like Rumi and Sir, they're certainly off to an awesome start.
