Here's Why Zoe Saldana Kept Her New Baby's Birth on the DL
The actress says keeping the pregnancy and birth of her third child secret gave her time to nest and adapt.
Actress Zoe Saldana and husband Marco Perego welcomed their third son in early 2017. Didn't even know she was preggers? Join the club! The actress didn't even announce the pregnancy until after her son was born, instead choosing to hide her baby bump the entire time.
Seems like a lot of work, right? But Saldana told E! News that keeping her pregnancy on the down-low was actually incredibly helpful. "When you are nesting, I think it's important to maintain some kind of anonymity," she explained. "Just for the sake of energy preservation."
Makes sense. But then in mid-February, the mom-of-three finally took to Instagram with a low-key post that pictured new son Zen engaging in a little tummy time while his 2-year-old twin big brothers Bowie and Cy looked on.
"Marco and I are elated to share the news of the birth of our son Zen," she wrote in the caption. "We couldn't feel more blessed with the new addition to our family. #threeboys... oh boy!"
So sweet! And again, the lack of fanfare that typically surrounds a formal celeb birth announcement was intentional, as it gave the Guardians of the Galaxy star time to focus on her growing fam.
"When you're a parent, especially when you have a newborn, there's a lot of energy that goes into the first stages of [adding] this newborn person into your lives," Saldana said. "You yourself are acclimating to your children. Part of that privacy is because of that."

She must be starting to feel a little more comfortable, because just yesterday the proud mama posted another shot of her awesome threesome:
"Best team with the number 1 coach," she captioned the adorable image of her boys decked out in Bayern Munich jerseys. "We're fans!"
