Actress Ellen Pompeo likes to keep her personal life private. In fact, she recently welcomed her second child and daughter, who was born two months ago via surrogate—and never breathed a word to anyone in the media! Pompeo surprised everyone when she announced the arrival of Sienna May (who joins big sister Stella Luna, who's 5-years-old) on Instagram today. The photo caption read, "Sienna May Ivery welcome to the world. We love you more than words can say."
On Twitter, she shared more details about the birth via surrogate, and thanked Shonda Rhimes for keeping the news under wraps.
Sienna was born via surrogate & I would like to thank my whole @ShondalandTV family for helping us enjoy these first few weeks privately â¤ï¸U

The "Grey's Anatomy" star and her husband, music producer Chris Ivery, are good at keeping secrets -- their own marriage in New York City was kept under wraps in 2007.
Pompeo is also one of a few over-40 Hollywood actresses who became new moms recently (in addition to Alyssa Milano and Halle Berry). Speaking to People magazine about later motherhood, Pompeo shared, "Being a mother is the most fun job I've ever had ... Career women tend to get pregnant late, and I have to say I would never have done it any other way. I have the best of both worlds and I don't feel like I've missed anything."
Congratulations to Dr. Meredith Grey and her real-life McDreamy! (And don't forget to check out our baby name blog In Name Only for the scoop on her baby name!)
Correction: An earlier version of this blog post incorrectly stated that Ellen Pompeo gave birth, when her second daughter was born via surrogate.
