Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds Took an Infant CPR Class & Think You Should Too

The actress took to Instagram to encourage all moms and dads to learn the important life-saving skill, and we couldn't agree more.

My daughter was a preemie, and one of the prerequisites for her to finally leave the NICU after four long weeks was that my husband and I had to take an infant CPR class. At first it seemed like just another annoying task that needed to be crossed off our to-do list before we could finally bring home our baby—I was married to a doctor, after all. But taking the course turned out to be a blessing in disguise for both of us, since knowing exactly what to do in an emergency gave us a feeling of confidence we wouldn't have otherwise possessed. I remember thinking at the time that every single parent should be required to do it.

Now, almost 15 years later, it appears that Blake Lively is my spirit animal. The mom of two daughters—2-year-old James, and baby Ines, born just 9 months ago—posted a selfie on Instagram yesterday that showed her giving the thumbs up sign while sprawled on a rug surrounded by CPR dummies.

"ALL MAMAS AND DADDIES OUT THERE," she began in her caption. "I can't recommend this enough, I took a CPR class with a focus on babies and toddlers. Google 'infant CPR class near me' and you'll see lots of listings. For those of you who haven't done it, you will love it. It's so helpful by giving you knowledge, tools, and some peace of mind."

Amen, Mama!

Meanwhile, Lively's husband also decided to brush up on his life-saving skills after taking a course through the Red Cross years ago that resulted in him saving his nephew's life. The actor posted a shot of himself with his instructor—and yes, a couple of dummies—over on his own Instagram feed.

"Yesterday I took a refresher course—focusing on infant and toddler CPR," he explained in the caption. "It takes only a few hours and it's also kinda, sorta fun. Thank you to Dan from Viva First Aid for the lesson. And thank you to these two helpful yet lifeless dolls whose vacant ocular cavities will haunt me until end times."

Hilarious! And more importantly, we love that this couple is advocating such important life-saving skills—way to go, guys!
