Baby Name: Sophie
French form of Sophia that was most often given to women of royalty in previous years. Ranked high among the top 200 from the 1880s until the mid 1920s possibly because of famous author, Sophie Kerr, who wrote 23 novels and many poems and short stories beginning in 1916. A classic name that faded and reentered chart in 1984, rising to the top 200 in 1999. Continues to be a popular choice as a girl's name partially due to character "Sophie Neveu" in Dan Brown's 2003 novel, "The Da Vinci Code," followed by the movie released in 2006 and for its association with its more commonly-used variations, Sophia and Sofia.
