Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their second child this weekend, and the couple finally announced the name today. Rumors indicated that big sister North would be joined by baby brother Easton to complete the directional set, while other rumors stated that the boy would have the middle name Robert in tribute to his late grandfather. But apparently, neither rumor was right, and the boy was given the name Saint.
Saint is a religious term that indicates a person who has an exceptional degree of holiness. But lately, Saint has been a favorite baby name pick for celebrities on the music scene. Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz picked the name Saint Laszlo for his second son, and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl put it in the middle spot for his daughter Ophelia Saint.
It seems like the Kardashian-West family favors two recent trends, both toward word names, and toward short-and-sweet one-syllable monikers. (Not surprising, given the fact that they make their living off their trendiness!)
But here's my question: Do you think that their name pick will bring Saint greater popularity, as Mason rose into the stratosphere after Kim's sister Kourtney picked it for her son? Or do you think that the Kardashian backlash will be in full effect, and keep Saint down amongst the Apples and Suris and other offbeat celebrity baby name choices?
My money is on the latter. Which is a shame, because I thought Saint made an intriguing (though potentially disrespectful to the deeply religious) name pick. Tell us what you think in the comments.
