Our amazing pregnancy blogger Bekka Besich just welcomed home her brand new baby daughter, Finley Juliet, who joins big sister Harper. (And we're all so excited about the big news here at!)

I know Bekka's been checking out my blog on occasion for some baby-naming advice, but it looks like she didn't need the help. I think she did fabulously well on her own.

Finley is an Irish name that means "fair-haired hero." Like so many popular names now, it started out as a boys-only moniker, but over the past few years has shifted to become even more popular for the girls than it is for the boys. (Though boys are still getting the name, as it's skyrocketed from the low 800s to the top 500 names for boys in the past five years alone.) It's currently in the mid-300s in popularity for girls, making it likely Miss Finley will be the one-and-only in her preschool class. While Finn is the typical nickname when it's used for boys, I'd like Fi or Lee as a nickname for a girl.

Juliet means young, and has as its claim to fame the heroine of one of Shakespeare's masterworks. As a name choice, it flows beautifully with Finley.

Plus, I love Harper and Finley as a sibling set. The names are fresh and slightly offbeat, but classic enough that they won't be getting mocked on the playground.

What do you think about Bekka's baby name choices? Would you put Finley on your short list for your son or daughter? And don't forget to head over to Bekka's blog, Great Expectations, to congratulate her on her big news!
