It's a girl for TV home designer (and American Home Builders star) Nate Berkus and his husband Jeremiah Brent. And they gave their baby girl, born via surrogate on Monday, a wonderfully fresh and cheerful baby name: Poppy.

Poppy has long been a British baby name favorite (it's number 12 on their charts), but it hasn't ranked in the top 1000—ever—here in the U.S. It's become a bit of a celebrity darling, though, with stars like Anthony Edwards, Jessica Capshaw, Jamie Oliver, and Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer choosing it for their daughters. (Not to mention actress Poppy Montgomery!) So we shouldn't be too surprised if the name starts to show up in the top 1000 in the next year or two.

There's no word yet on what middle name the pair picked for their little one. I like Poppy with something a little soft and sweet in the middle: the classic Elizabeth or Juliet, the classic middles Leigh or May, or the fun and funky Lark or Belle.

Poppy's long been one of my favorite (and criminally underused) floral names. If you like the idea but aren't a big fan of Poppy, you could consider Iris, Dahlia, and Magnolia as alternatives.

Tell us: Is Poppy ready to hit the big time here in the U.S.? What's your favorite floral baby name?
