Before you say, "huh?," here's the scoop: When he was a boy, George H.W. went by the nickname Poppy—which probably wasn't quite the same as the cheerful floral baby name that's recently been on an upswing in the U.S. It still hasn't quite broken the top 1000 here, but it's squarely in the top 20 across the pond, and lots of celebs have been picking it lately, including Nate Berkus, Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin, and Jessica Capshaw.
The middle name, Louise, comes from the baby's great-grandmothers, which include former First Lady Barbara Bush: Their middle names were Louise and Lewis. Louise means renowned warrior, just like its male counterpart, Louis, and it hasn't been in the headlines lately — it dropped out of the top 1000 in the early 1990s.
Once again, I'm loving the name they picked, and I'm always a sucker for names with such warm, family connections. (My daughters' names came from beloved family members, too.)
