Did you catch last night's series finale for How I Met Your Mother? It took until the final moments of the show's legen-(wait for it)-dary nine-year run before they revealed the Mother's name. (And no, it wasn't one of my picks!) It's a name that hit its peak back in the 1970s, and was starting a pretty sharp decline in the early 1980s—Tracy.
Tracy is a unisex French name that means from Thracia. Its biggest claim to fame was the surname of the legendary actor Spencer Tracy. And now, this long-awaited character name. It fell out of the top 1000 back at the turn of the 21st century, but it is a classic that may be worthy of another look. It was pretty popular, as there are some spelling differentiations—Tracey and Traci—that also ranked pretty high back in the day. (My sister is one of the Traceys from that era.)
What did you think of the name—and of the season finale? Is Tracy a name you'd pick for your child?
