Actor French Stewart and his wife, Vanessa, welcomed a baby girl about a month back. And it has a name I simply adore: Helene Claire. In an interview with People.com, French explained that the names were chosen from his family and hers, giving them extra meaning for the couple.
Helene is the French variant on Helen, which means "bright and shining." It hasn't been popular in the U.S. since the early 1970s, but it's a lovely vintage name that could be ready for a comeback, a la Harriet and Beatrice.
Her middle name, Claire, has the very same meaning, but is a much more popular name—it's currently in the top 45 names in the U.S. You can likely thank Claire Danes for part of that uptick, along with Modern Family's Claire Dunphy and Molly Ringwald's Breakfast Club character. (Contrary to Judd Nelson's assertion in that film, I hardly think it's a "fat girl's name.")
Together, Helene Claire makes a lovely name with French flair—and one that flows beautifully with their last name.
What do you think of the name? Is Helene ready for its comeback?
