It's a girl for newlywed Drew Barrymore and her art-consultant hubby Will Kopelman, who welcomed Olive Barrymore Kopelman late last week.

Olive has become a hot baby name of late—fueled in part by those looking for an alternative for top-five favorite Olivia. Its origins are obvious—and though the tree gives us its amazing fruits, it also has symbolized peace for centuries (think "extending the olive branch"). It's currently in the top 500 baby names in the U.S., and definitely one that's on the rise. It's not super common yet in the celebrity realm—actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher chose it for their first daughter, making Drew and Will the second ones to choose the name. (Though my guess is, they won't be the last!)

On a funny side note, Drew voiced the character of Olive, a dog who believes she's destined to help Santa with is sleigh in the cute animated Christmas special, "Olive, The Other Reindeer." I wonder if that played any part in her decision to choose the name. (But I'm sure that show will be in regular pre-Christmas rotation once her daughter's old enough to watch TV!)

It's no surprise that she opted to give her daughter her last name as her middle name—the amazing Barrymore clan has had a long and prestigious history in the acting field, and those in the family who don't come by the Barrymore name naturally often use it as their middle names.

What do you think of Drew and Will's choice of baby name? Would you give your child your maiden name as a middle name?
