The classic French form of Hannah that spent 65 years among the top 100 and is often combined or blended to create names such as Anise, Anita, Marianne, and Roseanne. It's accepted as the name of the mother of the Virgin Mary although its not mentioned in the Bible and known for Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII and the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Canadian author L.M. Montgomery used it for the title character in her 1908 novel, "Anne of Green Gables."
