A: Most face lotions are safe during pregnancy. Day creams should contain an SPF of at least 30 to protect your skin from the sun and potential melasma (darkening of the skin on the face that is sometimes permanent) that can occur during pregnancy. All chemical SPF lotions are safe during pregnancy but if you choose to use mineral-based lotions, check with your dermatologist for recommendations. Most night creams are safe as well, as long as they don't contain retinol, retinA or any other form of vitamin A. In large doses, these can cause birth defects. Many Oil of Olay products are free of these ingredients, particularly those that are not targeted at wrinkles.
