-Some methods to help treat fever include keeping the room temperature at a comfortably cool level and also to make sure your child is drinking plenty of fluids and staying hydrated. If they continue to feel bad, you can treat the fever with acetaminophen also known as Tylenol or ibuprofen also known as Motrin or Advil. It's important to know to not use aspirin to treat fever as this can cause Reye syndrome, which is a serious illness that can affect the liver and brain. Both medications work equally well, but you need to make sure to dose it correctly based on your child's age and weight. It's important to remember to not use ibuprofen if your child is less than 6 months of age and if they appear severely dehydrated. Tylenol does come as a rectal suppository and can be given in this way. This is a good technique to use at times. You can alternate between the two medications every 3 to 4 hours.
