How to Eat Healthy During Pregnancy: How To Avoid Listeria
Your weak immune system during regnancy can put you at a higher risk of contracting Listeria. Here's how to eat healthy during pregnancy.
When you're pregnant, it's crucial to eat with caution. Pregnancy makes you more vulnerable to food-borne illness that can harm you and your baby. You want to avoid Listeria, a bacteria that can occur in certain foods. Here are four tips to help you stay safe. Before you eat, cut, or cook fresh fruits and vegetables, thoroughly wash the produce, even those with peels, under running water. Steer clear of soft cheeses. Avoid unpasteurized milk and soft cheese such Feta, Brie, Camembert, blue-vein cheeses, and Mexican style cheeses. Avoid raw beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. Hotdogs, deli meats, or cold cuts must be heated to an eternal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Avoid refrigerated pate, meat spreads, and smoked seafood, but canned versions are okay. Keep your kitchen safe. Separate uncooked meats and poultry and anything that touches them, from vegetables, cooked foods, and ready-to-eat foods. And keep your refrigerator and cooking surfaces spick and span. Set the refrigerator temperature to below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. For more on pregnancy nutrition, check out parents.com.
