Hosting a baby shower for a mom-to-be? Consider a whimsical nursery rhyme-themed soiree and impress all your guests with these simple but spectacular cookies. Now these may look complicated, but I assure you they're not. You don't need to go out and buy specially-shaped cookie cutters. You just need round cookie cutters in 3 sizes. Mine are about 3 inches, 2 inches, and 1 inch. All of the cookies use the same process of royal icing with added accoutrements like sprinkles or sugar eyes or even chocolate chips. The key to decorating with royal icing is a process known as flooding. You're gonna start with your royal icing in a pastry bag or in a plastic bag with the corners trimmed off. That's fine. You're gonna create a border around the edge of your cookie. The next step is to use royal icing that you've diluted a bit and thinned a bit with water. You can use the tip of the bottle to help spread it to the edges. The border you've piped in the beginning with the thicker royal icing is what keeps it from dripping down the sides. At this point, you can either add sprinkles into the wet icing, so they'll set, or you can set them aside and let them dry. It'll harden to a nice smooth finish. To make the stars for Twinkle, Twinkle, I simply use 2 different colors of royal icing. I started with the yellow and I piped the star and filled it in, and then I did the blue around the edge and filled that in as well. To add a little jazz, I used these silver edible glitter sprinkles, and you just sprinkle them around while the royal icing is still wet. And to finish it off, I simply used another food safe marker, and I wrote Twinkle, Twinkle right across the star. And making these Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star cookies is as easy as that.
