-Hosting a baby shower for a mom-to-be? Consider a whimsical nursery rhyme themed soiree and impress all your guests with these simple but spectacular cookies. Now, these may look complicated, but I assure you they're not. You don't need to go out and buy especially shaped cookie cutters. You just need round cookie cutters in three sizes. Mine are about 3 inches, 2 inches, and 1 inch. All of the cookies use the same process of royal icing with added [unk] like sprinkles or sugar ice or even chocolate chips. The key to decorating with royal icing is a process known as flooding. You're gonna start with your royal icing in a pastry bag or in a plastic bag with the corner snipped off. That's fine. You're gonna create a border around the edge of your cookie. The next step is to use royal icing that you've diluted a bit and thinned a bit with water. You can use the tip of the bottle to help spread it to the edges. The border you piped in the beginning with the thicker royal icing is what keeps it from dripping down the sides. At this point, you can either add sprinkles into the wet icing so they will set or you can set them aside and let them dry until hardened to a nice smooth finish. Now, I told you we'll use all round cookies and I wasn't lying. To make Humpty Dumpty, I just stretched a round cookie before I baked it into this egg shape and then baked it up that way. To make Humpty's bowtie, it's actually really simple. You just use a large sprinkle, and with your fingers, break it in half and those become the sides of the bowtie. Then, in a matching color, I use a little mini sprinkle and that becomes the middle. I just stuck those on with royal icing. Final step is giving Humpty a space, and for that, I just use a food safe marker and I just drew it right on with a smiley face. I think Humpty is pretty happy before he falls and breaks himself. So gobble him up before he topples over.
