How to Make an Advent Calendar
Watch this video to learn how to make an advent calendar that your family can use every Christmas.
Hi. I'm Amanda Kingloff from Parents Magazine. Today, I'm gonna show you how to make a really clever advent calendar that you can use from year to year. For this project you will need a bulletin board that's at least 22 by 26 inches, 48 small paper cups, push pins, white tissue paper, a pencil, numbered rubber stamps, ink pads, scissors, a glue stick, a 4.5-inch Starbucks' lid, a sponge brush, and ribbon. Starting at the bottom of your board, lay out 24 cups and pin them into place. Lightly trace your cup 24 times on tissue paper. I found it easier to cut the paper into strips first to avoid wrinkling the paper as you go. To make the numbers, first lay paper towel under the tissue paper. Stamp numbers 1 to 24 in the center of the circles and as many ink colors as you'd like. We're using three. Cut out the circles. Take a lose cup and apply glue stick to the rim. Place a piece of candy or prize on top of the faced down numbered circle, then turn the cup over on to the number. Press firmly and let it dry in this position. Once your glue is dry about 15 to 20 minutes, insert the cups in a random order into the tree you've already created. Press your sponge brush into one of your ink pads to give your wood's star a little color. Let it dry, then hang on a push pin above the tree. How beautiful is this advent calendar. Your family will get to enjoy it for many years to come.
