-Busy moms don't always have time for facials, manicures, and hair treatments, right? But you actually don't have to spend a lot of time and money to look good if your diet contains the right food. Registered dietician and author of "The Beauty Diet: Looking Great Has Never Been So Delicious", Lisa Drayer, is here to show us what we should eat to not only look great, but to feel our best, too. It's great to have you here -Great to be here. -So, in your book, you say that it's not what you put on your body, but what you put in your body that not only makes you feel good, but look good. -Exactly. The foods that we eat provide beauty nutrients that are important for glowing skin, healthy hair, healthier nails, brighter eyes, and whiter teeth. So, it's really important to feed our features from the inside out. -Okay. Looking at this beautiful table, I can tell that fruit is really important here. -Yes. -Okay. -Definitely. -So, let's start with berries down at the end. Tell us how they'll make us look and feel better. -Sure. Well, berries are rich in antioxidants, which are important because they help protect against the signs of aging. They also help protect against disease as well. Blueberries in particular are rich in antioxidants. They actually rank number one in antioxidant activity-- -Wow. -out of all the berries. Yes. Plus, anthocyanins in blueberries-- these are the bluish-red pigments-- -Okay. -actually help to keep the collagen in our skin intact. -Ah. -So. -So, keeping us firm, no wrinkles. -Exactly. -Eat lots of blueberries. -Yup. And they're also a slimming snack. So, berries in general are low in calories and high in fiber. So, they're waistline-friendly. -Good for us. Okay. Oranges now and kiwis. How do those help? -Right. These fruits are rich in Vitamin C, which actually stimulates collagen synthesis and Vitamin C also helps protect against wrinkles. And one reason-- -Love that. -study-- -Yup. -researches found that diets high in Vitamin C were associated with less skin dryness and less noticeable wrinkles. So-- -Great news for us. -Definitely good for beauty. It's really important. So, you wanna make sure you're consuming lots of protein-rich foods, and also omega-3 fatty acids-- -Okay. -which are found in fish, in walnuts. The reason is, omega-3s are important for our scalp. They prevent the scalp from drying out, which also prevents hair from becoming dry and brittle as well. -Okay. Great advice. Let's move on. We've got mango, dried fruits, apricots, some nuts, and cantaloupe. -Yes. -Why should we eat this? -Sure. These fruits are rich in beta-carotene, which is a potent antioxidant-- again, protects against aging. Plus, beta-carotene gets converted to Vitamin A in the body. And Vitamin A is really important for healthy, bright eyes, and also for soft, smooth skin. So, here we have half a cantaloupe with cottage cheese-- cantaloupe is a great source of beta-carotene-- dried apricots with some nuts. This is great as a trail mix if you wanna take it with you on the go. -Right. -And here, we have chicken and mango salad. Mango is really rich in beta-carotene as well. So-- -And you get your chicken, your protein in there for everything else. -That's right. Yeah. -Okay. Perfect. Now, finally, watermelon and pink grape fruit. What do they contain that'll-- that'll help us out? -Right. These fruits contain lycopene. And lycopene is another important antioxidant, protects against aging. Plus, studies have shown that lycopene is an edible sunscreen. That is, when individuals consume lycopene in the diet, they actually experience less sunburn. -Who knew? -Yes. Exactly. So, it's important to consume lycopene-rich foods, particularly if you're out in the sunlight, along with your sunscreen. -Oh, my goodness. Such great information.
