Three-year-olds should have enough muscle control to be able to cut with scissors. Make sure that she is using safety scissors and always supervise your child to make sure she is using them properly. Start by teaching her that the scissors should never be used unless an adult is present and the child is sitting down. Children enjoy cutting sheets of paper, especially when she can continue to cut the sheets into smaller and smaller pieces. Afterwards, she can color the pieces and glue them on another sheet as a collage. As your child becomes better at cutting, you can draw lines, circles, squares and other shapes that she can cut out. This is a great way to practice for accuracy and coordination.
