This boy of 1-1/2 has had vomiting and diarrhea for 2 days. He also has a fever. He is unhappy and cries a lot. He seems lethargic and is clearly ill. His lips are dry. This is a sign that he is dehydrated; i.e., he does not have enough fluid in his body. When the skin of his abdomen is pinched, the skin folds stay there longer than is normal. This is also a sign that the child is dehydrated.
